Cognitions Counseling offers Accelerated Resolution Therapy

About Cognitions Counseling, LLC
Our Logo
The logo of Cognitions Counseling was designed to represent our most important values. First, the logo is shaped as a circle, because our goal for helping our clients is to "circle the wagons" to provide emotional safety.
Second, the figure within the logo is a representation of the famous sculpture, "The Thinker," and is an obvious nod to our name but also to Cognitive Theory and the man who developed what is still widely considered the Gold Standard of behavioral change therapy: CBT.
The thinking figure sits in front of the flag of the great State of South Carolina, where this practice makes its home. The blue in the outer ring of the logo, represents our deep respect for Police and all first responders, who often carry the weight of frequent and profound traumatic experiences. Cognitions Counseling is proud to serve you.
Cognitions Counseling was founded by Patrick Hull, LISW-CP, LCSW, who has been a resident of York County since 2016. Patrick recognized the small number of mental health therapists that are men, who serve men.

Our Process
This practice strives to provide clinically sound and ethically motivated mental health counseling—such as the evidence-based, goal-directed work performed in a professional setting. Your treatment will follow a structured progression to ensure safety, therapeutic efficacy, and professional accountability. While speed is not the goal, we do make every effort help you feel better as soon as is possible. Ethically AND efficiently.
Consult, Intake and Initial Assessment First, schedule a free, 15-minute phone consultation to make sure my skills and your needs are a good fit. Second, reviewing and signing the consent forms and practice policies. Once the the administrative task is completed, you help me gather a comprehensive clinical history to establish a baseline for treatment.
Over the years the assessment phase has caused a client or two to say, "No one has ever asked me that before." Questions are important and yes, I have many.
Case Formulation and Goal Setting: Based on the intake and initial assessment, we collaborate to develop a shared understanding of the presenting problems. Consistent with a goal-directed philosophy, this stage moves away from open-ended support towards defining specific, measurable targets for progress. The big question(s) to be answered: "how will we know when our work together has been accomplished?"
Active Intervention (The Therapy Process): During this phase, You will become familiar with the what and the how of your therapy—such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—to address the established targets. This involves the systematic implementation of interventions, such as cognitive restructuring and behavioral experiments, to help the client achieve clinical outcomes.
Monitoring and Adjustment: Throughout the course of care, progress is continuously assessed against the initial treatment goals. Assessment is ongoing and periodic reviews are completed together to determine if our approach remains effective or requires modification.
